How to Migrate a WordPress Site from Local to Live Server

This guide will walk you through the steps to migrate a WordPress site from a local development environment to a live server. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced developer, this tutorial will help you seamlessly transfer your site to a live environment.

Requirements

For this tutorial, you need:

  • An installed WordPress site on your local development environment
  • A web hosting account with cPanel access
  • Access to the All-in-One WP Migration plugin (for Method 1)
  • The theme files of your WordPress site

Method 1: Using All-in-One WP Migration

  1. Install and activate the All-in-One WP Migration plugin on your local WordPress site.
  2. Export your WordPress site using the plugin’s export feature. This will create a backup file of your entire site.
  3. Upload the backup file to your live server using cPanel’s file manager or any FTP client.
  4. Create a new MySQL database on your live server and import the backup file’s database using cPanel’s phpMyAdmin.
  5. Update the database details in your WordPress site’s wp-config.php file to connect to the new database.
  6. Visit your site’s URL on the live server to complete the migration process.

Method 2: Using cPanel – Manually Upload

  1. Upload all the theme files of your WordPress site to the appropriate directory on your live server.
  2. Activate the uploaded theme on the live site.
  3. Set up the theme’s settings and options to match your local development environment.
  4. Export the database of your local WordPress site using a tool like phpMyAdmin.
  5. Create a new MySQL database on your live server and import the exported database.
  6. Update the database details in your WordPress site’s wp-config.php file to connect to the new database.
  7. Visit your live site to ensure the migration was successful.

By following these steps, you can easily migrate your WordPress site from a local environment to a live server without any hassle. We hope this tutorial helps you smoothly transition your website to the online world!

Summary

In this tutorial, we covered two methods to migrate a WordPress site from a local environment to a live server. Method 1 involves using the All-in-One WP Migration plugin, while Method 2 requires manually uploading the theme files and exporting/importing the database.
